Description of Services Provided:

Before Pilot Activities (All Phases):

  • Conducted face-to-face paper-based questionnaire surveys with commuters, bus drivers, helpers, and pedestrians.

  • Digitized survey data using KoBo Toolbox and submitted hard and soft copies to DRSP.

During Pilot Activities:

  • Installed banners, signboards, and awareness materials at selected intersections and bus stops.

  • Conducted public announcements (miking) to raise awareness on traffic rules, especially around zebra crossings and traffic signals.

  • Distributed educational leaflets to promote safe road usage.

  • Provided on-site instruction to drivers, helpers, and pedestrians to follow traffic signals and zebra crossings.

  • Managed video-based traffic surveys focusing on:

    • 12 vehicle categories (motorcycles, buses, cars, trucks, etc.)

    • Pedestrian trajectory monitoring

    • Three distinct behavioral observation methods related to crossing behavior

  • Deployed a dedicated team of 8–10 trained personnel for 1 month to assist at traffic lights, ensuring pedestrians and vehicles obey road signals and zebra crossing protocols.

  • Transported DRSP materials between AC Traffic Office and DMP as needed.

After Pilot Activities:

  • Reviewed video footage to analyze traffic movement and pedestrian behavior; conducted manual traffic count and data entry.

  • Removed banners, signboards, and awareness materials after completion of the pilot phase.


Key Highlights:

  • Successfully enhanced public compliance with traffic signals and zebra crossings through active field engagement.

  • Strengthened community awareness and participation in road safety through education, behavior monitoring, and on-the-ground support.

  • Supported JICA and DMP's vision for a safer and more orderly urban traffic environment in Dhaka.
